What Operating Systems does RevIQ Run on?
RevIQ Runs on Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista only (how can I tell what operating system I am using).  RevIQ is not supported on Windows 98.  RevIQ is also not supported on mac systems, although some users do use RevIQ on their mac systems by using a Virtual PC type system.

I get an error installing the RevIQ Database Engine (Microsoft SQL Server)
If you have issues installing the Database engine that RevIQ uses (Microsoft SQL Server Express) then  we recommend that you follow the below steps:

Step1.  Go to your control panel, then 'Add/Remove programs'.  Remove (un-install) the following entries if they are present:

Step 2.  Attempt to install RevIQ again.  If this fails, then repeat step 1 and attempt step 3 below

Step 3.  Download and install this component directly from the Microsoft website.  You can download this component from

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3181842a-4090-4431-acdd-9a1c832e65a6&DisplayLang=en

If you are using a 64 bit system, then you must download the SQLEXPR.EXE file, all other users the SQLEXPR32.EXE file is recommended.

After downloading and installing this component, try installing RevIQ again

I receive a message 'Cannot connect to database' or 'Cannot create datastore' when I start RevIQ

This is a known issue in RevIQ.  On some versions of Windows and/or after a Windows auto-update the RevIQ data files become compressed.  This issue appears to affect windows XP machines only.  To resolve this issue follow the below steps:

1.  Start windows explorer from your windows 'Start' button.  Click to start > all programs > accessories > Windows Explorer

2.  On microsoft XP machines use windows explorer to navigate to 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data' (screenshot below)

3.  If you cannot see the 'Application Data' folder in your windows explorer, this means the folder is hidden.  To unhide this folder:
a.  In Windows Explorer click 'Tools' from the top menu, then click 'Folder Options'
b.  Click to the 'View' tab
c.  Select the radio button 'Show hidden files and folders'
d.  The application data folder wil now appear, click into this folder

4.  Inside the Application Data will be a folder called 'RevIQ'.  Inside 'RevIQ' is a folder named 'Data' and inside the 'Data' folder are two files (these are the raw RevIQ data files)  They are called, for New Zealand users: (Australian users will see 'AU' substituted for 'NZ'):
PropertyInvestor2NZ.dat
PropertyInvestor2NZ_Log.dat

5.  Right click on the PropertyInvestor2NZ.dat folder and select 'Properties'.  The properties window (shown below) will appear.

6.  Click on the button marked 'Advanced'.

7  Untick the box 'Compress contents to save disk space' and click OK (screenshot below)

8.  In the folder properties window click 'OK'.

9.  If you receive an error message when you click 'OK' advising you that the file is in use this means that the database engine has 'locked' the file.  Please re-start your computer and repeat this process again.

10  Repeat steps 5,6,7 and 8 for the file PropertyInvestor2NZ_Log.dat

11.  Now attempt to start RevIQ, it should start the software with no error messages

If you have problems applying the above steps, or these steps do not resolve the problem please
contact RevIQ support.  You may be asked to download and install the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, this can be done from the link below.
